The Cliteratti are Hackney Wick’s up and coming queer women night - with live performance and RnB beats, they have been making a name for themselves with their events at the The Yard Theatre. Here, they tell us about their exciting new collaboration which will bring the best of queerlesque.
What’s the Cliteratti about?
We’re inspired by this huge growth in variety in London’s LGBT nightlife, and are here to inject a strong dose of queer women into the performance space; we’re about drawing in a diverse audience to give queer women a platform and but then marry that R’n’B and hip hop tunes. All profit from our ticket sales goes straight to performers.
Why burlesque for your next event?
We are trying to get a bit of everything on stage - comedy, lip syncing, drag kings, burlesque was the obvious place to turn to next…
Why did you go into burlesque as a performer?
Loretta von Dini:
I like the freedom and creativity. I think there are so many different artistic crafts you can bring to it and it just seems that the creative possibilities are endless. I also like it because coming from acting in Los Angeles which I felt it promoted unrealistic and unhealthy images of women burlesque really promotes different body types and welcomes them as opposed to try to make everyone fit in a similar box. I find it celebrates women in their creativity, sexuality, and body type.
Tell us about the October line-up, what can we expect?
Loretta Von Dini:
This evening will have a diverse line up of queerlesque from classical, drag, comedy, and magic. This line up will celebrate the queer identity and showcase many different genres of performance. Definitely a night not to be missed and it will definitely keep the audience engaged and asking for more!
What kind of party can we expect afterwards?
We’re chuffed to have DJ Misty back - seems like she’s playing just about every lesbian/queer party in London right now! Girl world, G-A-Y, Mint, RnShe; she always plays a great set so expect to get dancing. I wrap it up with a few more of the 1990s-2000s classics; Destiny’s Child, Missy Elliot, Brandy - it’s all about lady-power RnB nostalgia for me!
The Cliteratti is a not-for-profit LBQ event that runs regular nights in London.
The next Cliteratti takes place on Friday 6 October. Doors open at 10pm and the show starts at 11pm. Dancing until 3am.
