DJ BonBon Armstrong

1. What was your first DJ event?

The first time I ever did a set was in Birmingham in 1994, gosh that makes me feel old, and it was on vinyl decks at a club called Tin Tins on SmallBrook Queensway, which I believe is now Debenhams in the Bullring Shopping Centre. After a long gap I then restarted DJing in 2012 and my first gig was at The Finsbury in North London.

2. How long have you been a DJ?

This time around I have been DJing for nearly three years.

3. How would you describe your DJ style?

Random and various! I'm a crowd pleasing DJ. Mostly I support bands on tour or at gigs and play lots of Rock n Roll/Indie right through to old school hip hop and some Northern Soul. If you can remember it and sing along to it, I play it. However my passion is electro/synth (not house/garage or tech) and I've recently been playing around with lots of Bastille and Tom Odell and remixing them into something you can stomp your feet to.

4. What nights do you currently DJ at?

SHE bar in Soho on the last Friday of the month which is an over 25's night. It gets really busy very early so make sure you get down there before going anywhere else. I also have a residency at the Enterprise in Camden, playing the third Saturday of every month and the rest of my time I spend DJing at The Finsbury in North London.

5. What genres of music do you play?

Its a long list; Indie, Alt, Hip Hop, Disco, 80/90s dance, Rock N Roll, 60's and Electro Dance Indie music.

6. What is your all-time favourite track?

Its a long list; Indie, Alt, Hip Hop, Disco, 80/90s dance, Rock N Roll, 60's and Electro Dance Indie music.

7. What is your guilty pleasure?

Summer Camp - Fresh (I know its cheesy but I like it).

8. How and why did you become a DJ?

I love music and I cant sing or play an instrument and felt this was the next best thing, I then fell in love with making my audiences dance even when there is no dance floor. Its always a challenge and one I love.

9. What has been your best DJ gig so far?

Hmm can I pick two? 1st) was warming up for Jaguar Skills on the main stage at Strawberry Fields Festival, the second would be my first set at the SHE club in Soho for the over 25s night.

10. When you're not a DJ what events do you like to go to?

Its difficult to get out to as I'm also a radio presenter for two stations and I'm fortunate to run a company that works with artists. My favorite thing is doing our live music show on Ustream on the last Sunday of every month ( Other than that I'm at most festivals during the summer season (I book the DJs for Lubstock Festival and live band gigs during my nights off.

You can also catch me on Croydon Radio every Thursday live from 4pm-6pm (
