1. What is your artist name?
2. How would you describe what you do?
I'm a singer storyteller. I sing songs I write, and songs I like. My sound is Yorkshire folk/modern country. I sing in my natural Yorkshire accent, and write songs about life, love and truth (and nothing but the truth so help me god...)
A lot of my songs are laced with humour, stories that'll both make audiences laugh and shed a tear. I like to leave a gig feeling that I've connected with my audience, a bit like old friends. We've had our highs and lows, had a laugh, shed a tear and now we can share a beer or 4!
How long have you being performing/working?
I've been playing guitar since I was 11, and writing (awful) songs since around then too. Luckily I started to improve and I started gigging around Yorkshire when I was 16. I was spotted by a northern record label and signed with them for a few years, eventually releasing an album when I was 18.
I then moved to London to train as an actor and my music went slightly on the back burner although I kept on writing music and since graduating I've been gigging all around London and the north and most recently wrote the music for a play in Leeds.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
Highlight of my music career has to be my single 'Angel' making it in the top ten in the Irish folk charts.
Have you worked/performed for/with anyone famous?
I once worked with a man from the wine gum advert!! There's a moose a loose aboooot this hoooouse!
If you could perform/work with anyone, who would it be?
Damien Rice is a huge inspiration to me, the truth and honesty in his music is something I love and inspired me growing up. I hope that my music and writing at least slightly replicates his honesty. To work with him would be a dream. Also Brandi Carlile is an American folk singer whose music and sound I love, oh and I totally fancy her. Can I work with her please?
What is your guilty pleasure?
90's dance music. Techno techno! Listening to 'Scooter' on the back of the bus as a teenager is something that both makes me hang my head in shame and grin with pride. I still listen to some of it on Spotify. Shh! I often cover 90s dance hits in my gigs. I think they are everyone's guilty pleasure really...
Tell us one secret about yourself...
A secret? Well.... That'd be telling...!! An embarrassing secret, is... I have a phobia of buttons. Even the word makes me feel funny. Pearly queens are like a great white shark to me!
How and why did you get into this profession?
My parents are both musicians, so it's in the blood I guess!
When you're not working what do you like to do to chill out?
To chill out I tend to play guitar. It really chills me out, although it is also my job! I also like to watch Netflix and knit, it's a new hobby, and I bitched breaking bad whilst knitting a baby blanket. Progressive procrastination... TICK!
