Shatter Effect lead Singer Bex Davies goes onto the hot seat and reveals all...
What is your artist name?
Shatter Effect - Rebecca 'Bex' Davies
How would you describe what you do?
Front woman, lead vocals, synths, keys and crowd surfer for Shatter Effect.
How long have you being performing/working?
We've been been performing together for 4 years and still going strong!
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
We've done so much over the last few years. Everything has a special place in our memories. Personally, our gig at The Cavern Club is high up there. I'm a huge Beatles fan and the atmosphere inside The Cavern is intense. We love Liverpool and we always gravitate towards this venue whenever we visit. Gigs aside, writing and recording our debut album 'We Are Warriors' is at the peak of what we've achieved together so far.
Have you worked/performed for/with anyone famous?
3 months into our career we supported Ed Sheeran at a festival. He's a really down to earth guy. Last Christmas we performed as part of The Peace Collective on 'All Together Now' a charity single by The Farm for British Red Cross featuring Clean Bandit, Alexandra Burke, Gabrielle, The Proclaimers, Englebert Humperdinck, Holly Johnson, David Gray and so many other influential artists. It was good fun and all for a great cause.
If you could perform/work with anyone, who would it be?
I like a big personality on stage. Someone who really puts on a show. I would have loved the opportunity to work with someone as legendary as Freddie Mercury in the height of his career with Queen. In today's music scene the same applies. Lady Gaga is someone i'd love to work with. She's a talented individual. Muse will always be top of the list. Their music has stood the test of time and gone from strength to strength in recent years. That's something to be commended.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters once said that there's no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Like what you like and be happy with who you are. Thats a pretty cool attitude to have. Yeah, i might feel bad about eating a cookie when its not my 'cheat day' but I'm going to eat it anyway so why should I stress out over it? Eat the damn cookie and smile already.
Tell us one secret about yourself
I don't really keep secrets. As a teenager, I was always sneaking off and keeping things from people so that I didn't get into trouble or disappoint anyone so its something I've made a conscious effort to steer away from as I've grown up. I like to be open and honest with people. We could always invent something juicy though. Maybe start a rumour or two to spice things up. Let's pretend that I'm a secret agent on the side. That should do it....creates an air of mystery.
How and why did you get into this profession?
I've always loved music. My Dad encouraged me to learn how to play piano and he taught me a lot about different genres of music. I've grown up with really eclectic tastes and I think that's got a lot to do with the music I create today. I know what I like and I know what sounds good to me. This attitude probably pushed me towards wanting to make music full time. I guess I liked certain aspects of what other artists were doing and I wanted to see if I could do the same or better.
When you're not working what do you like to do to chill out?
I love to catch live music in my home town. We play so many gigs ourselves that it's cool when we have time to go out and watch other bands and artists perform. We like to socialise as a group and catch up with friends who miss you when we're away. We're on the road a lot for gigs, rehearsals and meetings so when we get down time I just love to be at home with my girlfriend and our cats. It's so simple but it's important to me. Band can get pretty noisy at times so it's nice to just relax, throw my PJs on and catch up with a boxset on the sofa.
