Helping a healthy body...discounted osteopathy

A healthy body is as important as a healthy mind. Planet London has arranged a community discount with Osteopathy Appointments at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO).

Appointments are delivered by senior osteopathy students, supervised by registered osteopaths at a subsidised rate of just £18 per session (with the Planet London discount, normal fees are £22).

The BSO is a registered charity which educates student osteopaths, treats patients and promotes research. They aim to provide high-quality, innovative, modern osteopathic education and treatment. They treat people equally regardless of age, gender, religion, race or sexual orientation.

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging a person's muscles and joints. Osteopathy is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together.

What can osteopaths help you with?

Osteopaths treat the person rather than specific conditions - for example, an injury to your knee might also affect the foot, hip and spine. Osteopathy can help relieve the symptoms of a range of conditions, including:

  • aches and pains
  • joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis in association with other treatment for this condition
  • arthritic pain
  • general, acute and chronic backache and back pain*
  • neck pain*
  • headache arising from the neck
  • shoulder and elbow pain
  • joint pains and lumbago
  • sciatica
  • muscle spasms
  • sports injuries and tensions

* In cases of injury or accident it is advisable to seek advice from your GP in the first instance.

If you would like to find out whether osteopathy is able to help with your condition please ring the clinic. The reception team will be able to arrange for an osteopath to ring you back and discuss your problem.

Consultatations

A first appointment lasts 1 hour 20 minutes and includes a consultation and initial treatment. Follow up appointments last 30-40 minutes.

Your practitioner will take a full case history which will include your medical history and current general health along with your presenting complaint.

Osteopathic treatment

There are many different techniques and treatment types that osteopaths use and your practitioner will discuss these with you. You may be advised with regards to exercises, diet, work posture, etc as is relevant to your case.

Highly recommended

"The BSO has been a god send to me. Suffering from tight and swollen shoulders, sore neck and headaches due to practically living on a computer; I headed down to the BSO. I'd previously used them for my lower back a couple of years back, and my wife Katie has also successfully resolved knee issues from playing netball. In just a half dozen appointments I have improved so much. My aches are all but gone, I have some stretches I can do at work to prevent further problems and I no longer need painkillers in the afternoon. I am so happy we can offer a discount to other LBQ women so that they can also benefit from the service."
