If I had a pound for every time my partner and I have been asked if we were having a double wedding since we began planning our civil partnership (taking place next year), I’d be able to pay for... well one more person to come to the celebration.
When we started shopping around for some of the “frills” for the celebration we went to a couple of wedding fayres. It’s one thing not to be considered a couple on first glance, we’re just 2 women attending a fayre together. But when they start asking questions, and we start giving joint answers or the same answers, the look of confusion on some suppliers faces is sheer confusion. Mention “2 brides” the immediate conclusion 9 times out of 10 was “oh are you having a double wedding?” and one response (a wedding photographer) remarked “oh I don’t know how we’d manage the arrival photography with 2 brides”. The most comical comment however, was when the supplier thought it was a more logical conclusion to imagine my partner was marrying her father rather than me.
Needless to say, this has helped somewhat in the narrowing down of our choice of who photographs, decorates and dresses our wedding.
