From Hen Do to I do - our Chic Do

Posted by Planet Nation on 04 July 2012

How did you do yours?

We decided to have a joint hen do. And we wanted to thwart tradition, so we called it a Chic Do (spot the clever pun, and effort to make ourselves sound so sophisticated!)

Posted by Planet Nation on 03 July 2012

Recently my sister explained to my seven year old nephew what a same sex relationship is, as he is soon to attend my civil partnership ceremony as a ring bearer.

"What happens at a gay wedding?"

Posted by Editor on 02 July 2012

This is the question my grandad asked, a couple of months before my partner's and my civil partnership ceremony - which is due to take place next week.

Girl hair: it’s there; get used to it!

Posted by Anonymous (not verified) on 05 May 2012

Last week, in line to see a film, half of my mind was in conversation with my friend while the other half sized up a cute, effeminate, young man: dark hair flopping around his deep, brown eyes; thick, post-pubescent fluff on his upper lip; olive skin accented by his black jacket, skirt and tights.

So hands up those of you that knew about the Mayoral elections on the 3rd May? Now hands up those of you that understand politics and what the role of the London Mayor is?? If like me, you find politics confusing, boring and just switch off at the mere mention of it, well think again!!! Hopefully by the time you've read this article, you will be converted and be treating politics as your new best friend.

Not so out and proud at the Olympics

Posted by Planet Nation on 25 April 2012

This morning we learned that Pride House, offered as one of the official Olympics Houses specifically for the LGBT communities and set to take place on Clapham Common, will no longer be taking place due to not raising enough sponsorship or attracting artists. The news was leaked by Pride House Director Chad Molleken to Your Local Guardian.

Being a Same Sex Partner When a Medical Emergency Occurs

Posted by Katie Doyle on 20 April 2012

I’ve been AWOL from writing any articles for a while now, life certainly does get in the way sometimes and the last few months have been no exception.

My beautiful wife had a health scare recently which meant we both had no choice than to place our futures into the hands of the NHS.

Culture Club

Posted by Planet Nation on 03 March 2012

Looking at the Planet London events calendar, reading the feedback we’ve had from the first lesbian and bisexual women’s community survey, and chatting to the lesbian and bi women we know, one reflection that has repeatedly come up is the lack of well defined sub cultures in the lesbian and bi women’s scene.

'Out' of the Loop?

Posted by Planet Nation on 23 February 2012

Facebook events has become a vital tool for those of you organising meet ups; parties; any kind of gathering really and over the last 6 months we’ve seen a proliferation of event organisers on the lesbian and bi women’s scene using Facebook in just this way.

Asian Les-bian

Posted by Le Fin on 22 February 2012

We joke about it now, but what would I have said if I had overheard the man outside the station? We were kissing on Kingsland High Street, in the afternoon on a cold December day. It’s easy for me, well easier for me - nobody who matters enough, knows me here.

Dykeumentary - fundraising for Dyke March London

Posted by Planet Nation on 08 February 2012

The Book Club is a rather nice bar, selling tea and coffee as well as alcohol and tends to get busy in the evening. I never knew it had a downstairs until today. After walking around like a nob for a few minutes, I was pleased to note someone else looking equally as confused. I ended up following her down the stairs and finding the event. Whoever you were, thank you.

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Posted by Editor on 12 January 2012

A few of months ago we asked 'Where have all the lesbians gone?' and after asking that question we (Naomi and Katie) embarked on a long journey to find out.

2011 – How was it for you? And what will 2012 bring?

Posted by Planet Nation on 24 December 2011

Well for Planet London, 2011 has been quite a year. We launched in March following the idea for the site germinating in our minds for a good while, and multiple requests from friends for a good source of up to date reliable information on what’s going on in London for lesbians.

Sporting my passion

Posted by Editor on 23 November 2011

On Monday 21st November we went along to the pre-launch of the 2012 LGBT History Month, at the Kia Oval.

The theme for next history month is sport – obviously to coincide with the Olympics and Paralympics in London. We were treated to some great speakers including. Sue Sanders (co-chair of LGBT History Month), Stephen Frost (Head of Diversity and Inclusion at LOCOG) and Chad Molleken (Executive Director of Pride House London), who were passionate about fighting homophobia in sport and making professional sport a safe space for its athletes to come out.

“A double wedding?”

Posted by Planet Nation on 17 November 2011

Mention “2 brides” the immediate conclusion 9 times out of 10 was “oh are you having a double wedding?” and one response (a wedding photographer) remarked “oh I don’t know how we’d manage the arrival photography with 2 brides”.

“A double wedding?”

Posted by Planet Nation on 17 November 2011

If I had a pound for every time my partner and I have been asked if we were having a double wedding since we began planning our civil partnership (taking place next year), I’d be able to pay for...well one more person to come to the celebration.

Who Cares?

Posted by Ida Raine on 29 October 2011

The Vigil against Hate Crime 2011 wasn't well publicised from where I'm standing. I first saw it on my newsfeed in response to the brutal murder of Stuart Walker. Planet London was the next to publicise it and later, a member of Pride London. Yet each time it dropped like a stone in the ocean. Asking around today, almost none of my social circle were going and in fact, few seemed even aware it was happening.

Closure of First Out

Posted by Planet Nation on 12 October 2011

When talking about the community spirit and response to the closure Maria wanted to remind everyone to show their support for First Out by coming down, whether it be for after work drinks, Sunday lunch, tea and cake, dinner or a good old boogie in the basement bar. There is nothing to protest about or campaign for, this is a time to celebrate one of the most iconic venues on the scene in the last 25 years.
