Here at a Distance by Casee Wilson

A contemporary musical gem

“Here At A Distance” is Casee Wilson’s 3rd studio album. She is an independent singer/songwriter based in York in the UK, who’s music has been likened to Kate Bush and Tori Amos. Her 3rd album gives a vibe of whimsical and magic, a bit like a collection of lullabies for adults.

Contemporary and easy listening, the 13 track acoustic song album transports you on a journey to the centre of the Universe. If you need a smile on a gloomy day, this album is for you.

Casee Wilson on the pianoHer music style with this album is raw and acoustic, with some light musical and vocal arrangements. Some of the tracks on the album reminded me of Evanescence’s style, minus the array of electric guitars and slides. The piano-voice mix throughout the album is well balanced and easy on the ears. It’s the kind of music to listen to on a rainy day, sitting by the fire with a cup of tea. Casee’s album will make you feel hopeful, sad, dreamy, strong. Her lyrics are authentic, though the rhythm can be repetitive, but the overall feel of this album is great.

She has been compared to Tori Amos, Kate Bush, but I also found similarities with the styles of Loreena McKennitt, and Evanescence’s softer songs. You can also hear a resemblance to Meghan Trainor, with her track “Scarlett Casanova”, which I thought was a good cheek-in-tongue song. I would love to hear from Wilson, in the future, a bit more string arrangements to balance her voice harmonies and piano. She is an artist with tremendous potential, who does it all; her vocals still need a little bit of fine tuning, but her intentions and heart can be felt throughout the songs. “Bitter Fruits”, “Learning to Fly”, and “Amazing” are already three songs that I have taken a fancy to. I love the simplicity of her lyrics and how relatable they are.

I give Casee Wilson’s “Here At A Distance” a solid 3.5/5 stars. If you are looking for a Christmas gift, this album with definitely get you into the Holiday Spirit!
