Fringe! Film Festival returns for 2018

This November, Fringe! returns for its eighth year with a diverse, provocative and outrightly political programme of film screenings alongside workshops, panels and parties, transforming venues across East London over six days.

From 13 to 18 November Fringe! Film Festival brings us film, art and culture with drag kings, club nights and films which show our lesbian lives on screen in various forms.

At Planet Nation we know we're all about the ladies, so these are our top 12 picks for this year:

BFI FLARE Opening Night Film - My Days of Mercy

Tali Shalom-Ezer’s My Days of Mercy opens the Festival on Wednesday 21 March. Powered by stirring performances from Ellen Page (Juno, Inception & Freeheld) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, The Martian). Lucy (Ellen Page), the daughter of a man who is on death row, falls in love with Mercy (Kate Mara), a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause. As a result, Lucy’s value for truth is teste as her world begins to unravel.

Interview with Emma Smart - lesbian programmer at BFI Flare

BFI Flare is one of our favourite things on the calendar. I mean literally hundreds of women pretty much move into the Southbank for 10 days. In addition to this, there is a mass of lesbian film content available to watch. These two things are quite rare so when they come together, it is lesbian Christmas for sure!

We took a bit of time to find out more about one of the programmers, who has been with the festival for many, many years to find out about the festival behind the scenes. What happens outside the 10 day festival, how many films get entered. You know that kind of thing.
